Minecraft is a game in the genre of "open world" which develops the skills of creativity and teamwork. The only limitation in Minecraft is the imagination of the player.

Microsoft has developed an educational platform based on Minecraft where children learn a number of complex subjects such as programming, math, geometry, etc. Learning based on the game helps children quickly and easily master complex sciences easily.

According to Microsoft Class of 2030 research, future students will need not only technical skills, but also so-called “soft skills”, such as creativity, sociability, learning ability and ability to train others, stress resistance, ability to make decisions quickly, time and finance management, etc. Teachers fr om 11 countries participating in the study noted that problem solving, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration, in addition to decision-making and communication, are the main skills that Minecraft cultivates. In a study conducted by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at the Sesame Workshop, 71% of teachers using computer games such as Minecraft reported a subsequent improvement in students' math thinking. These are vital skills for future work in computer science.

International programming school CODDY has developed a new and advanced programming course based on the legendary video game using the Microsoft methodology for the development of a set of technical and leadership skills. The training cycle covers both the fundamental foundations of programming and the applied aspects of their use in building the gaming universe.

Minecraft: basics of Artificial Intelligence is the course designed for children from 7 to 12 years old who start their way in programming or have basic knowledge. The course includes 8 months of intensive study in groups of up to 10 students. Throughout the course, children will receive a wide range of fundamental knowledge in programming, as well as improve their soft-skills like self-confidence, teamwork, problem solving skills, creativity.

As for coding process, we use MakeCode educational environment in classes. MakeCode is developed by Microsoft and it covers all fundamental programming topics: loops, conditional structures, arrays. The programming environment MakeCode offers the widest functionality in terms of learning programming. In the learning process professional coding language JavaScript will be also introduced. JavaScript is considered as one of the most popular programming languages in the IT sphere.

At the end of the course projects are supported in the presence of the students' parents. What is this course briefly about?

Training is provided on a platform created by Microsoft. The course itself was developed according to the methods of Microsoft adapted by CODDY.

The development environment is similar to Scratch ( in terms of complexity too), but with the broadest functionality for learning programming.

In this version of Minecraft children program their agent which helps to solve routine tasks: building, mining, protection from mobs. At the end of the course children work in the popular JavaScript language.

During the course 25% of the time is devoted to developing soft skills. In the classroom, it is imperative to work in a team and communicate, as programmers and many other specialists in companies do. Leaders always appear in the team which also develops leadership skills. The course also develops creative skills, time management skills, problem solving, project work skills.

During the course colored technical specifications are issued. After each lesson, the teacher gives homework.

Will not artificial intelligence be complicated for a 7-year-old child?

We study the principles of artificial intelligence, conduct various activities in order to understand what artificial intelligence is and wh ere it is used.

In fact, we build mazes of any complexity and program the agent so that the agent can get out of any maze. In this way we show that there is artificial intelligence in Minecraft.

Will not JavaScript be complicated for a 7-year-old child?

In Minecraft learning JavaScript is very practical since programming is block-based. Children do not need to code by using a keyboard. They learn to read and understand the code and after they create something of their own.
