Did you know that artificial intelligence defeated a human in chess and go, but did not overcome an elementary problem in Minecraft? All because this game is not tied to simple logic, and gives a huge scope for creativity, development and learning.
Minecraft is in the top five most popular video games of the decade. Global sales of the game for 11 years of existence exceeded 200 million copies, and the number of active users per month according to the latest statistics was 126 million.
A serious passion for the game is not a cause for alarm, but an opportunity to turn a hobby into a tool for development. It's even easier with Minecraft than with other games.
We have developed a course for real Minecraft fans who want to create their own mods and simultaneously learn the basics of one of the most popular programming languages in the world — Java.
The course "Minecraft mod development" is designed for children 8-12 years old who are passionate about Minecraft. In our classes, we learn how to create custom modifications for the game: costumes, worlds, game tools, and game creatures. To develop mods, the MCreator editor and Java language are used, so in parallel, students learn the theory and basics of programming. MCreator includes advanced block functionality, which makes the process of creating mods even more understandable and exciting.
Children will learn:
The students will learn the basics of programming and basic concepts of the Java language, as well as 3D modeling. The skills acquired in the course will be an excellent basis for further study of programming.
During the first month, the students will get acquainted with the MCreator program, study the application interface, and create the first test modifications: tool packs, resources, plants, workbenches, and a new refrigerator unit. We will build a farm from our own blocks with self-created plants and game items.
In the second month of training, we will get acquainted with 3D graphics and the BlockBench program (an editor that allows you to create 3D models). The children will learn the program interface and the basics of 3D modeling in BlockBench, create their own models of blocks and objects, and add them to the game. In addition, we will learn how to create active components: doors, chests, and tools.
In the third month of training, children will create their own characters and game world.
In this module, we will learn more about building active 3D models in BlockBench and learn how to create game characters.
At the end of the course, we will send our modifications to Minecraft so that everyone can use the objects created by the students.
The “Mods for Minecraft” course is part of a two-year advanced learning program for programming with Minecraft (other courses are optional to enroll in this course):
CODDY teachers have been teaching children programming for over four years. During this time, we were attended by hundreds of children and adolescents of different ages, with different hobbies and characters. The overwhelming majority of them stay with us for a long time, moving from level to level, from course to course - building their own path to the profession of their dreams.

Under the guidance of our experienced teachers, the child will turn his hobby into a useful skill, find like-minded people and open the door to the vast world of high technologies.
For a successful class, your child will need a computer or laptop with pre-installed software, internet access (recommended connection speed - at least 20 Mbit/sec), headphones and additional equipment for better sound quality - a microphone or headset. Please make sure you have a stable internet connection before you start the course.
You must have a computer that meets certain requirements to successfully complete the course. Please follow the link for details on computer requirements.
We will provide instructions for installing the software required for the course, which you can open by clicking here. Please follow the step-by-step instructions to install the software. If you have any questions or problems during the installation process, please contact your manager or course instructor.
We are proud of the success of each student who has completed our course and therefore issue a personal certificate from CODDY at the end of the course. This certificate is a proof of the achievements and efforts invested in the course and can be used to build the student's portfolio.
