Why one-size-fits-all doesn't work for coding education

Every child learns differently. Some race ahead. Others need more time to process. Some love games. Others want to build apps or design websites.

Traditional classes teach to the "average" student. The fast learners get bored. The ones who need more time fall behind. In coding—where every new concept builds on the last—this approach kills motivation fast.

That's the problem personalized learning solves. Each child moves at their own pace, focuses on what interests them, and gets support exactly where they need it.

Coddy has been doing this since 2016. We've taught over 200,000 students across 28 countries. And personalization isn't a marketing buzzword for us—it's how we actually run every class.

How personalization works at Coddy

Before the First Lesson

We don't just assign your child to a random class. First, we learn about them:

  • Current skill level
  • How they prefer to learn
  • What they're interested in (games, apps, design, robotics)
  • What they want to create

This helps us recommend the right course and brief the teacher on how to approach your child.

During the Course

Flexible difficulty. Advanced kids get harder challenges. Kids who need more time get extra explanations and smaller steps. Same class, different experience.

Projects they care about. Instead of generic assignments, kids build projects around their interests. A Minecraft fan creates mods. A budding designer focuses on visuals. An aspiring game developer builds their own game.

Regular check-ins. Every five lessons, we assess progress and share feedback with parents. What's going well? What needs more attention? This keeps the program on track.

Small Groups

Even in group classes, we cap enrollment at 6-8 students. This means the teacher can actually pay attention to each child—not just lecture to a room.

At Coddy, we have developed a system to personalize each of our courses.

Our teachers: tech professionals who know how to teach

Coddy teachers aren't just educators. They're working developers, designers, and engineers from companies you've heard of. They code every day—and they know how to explain it to kids.

What we look for:

  • Real industry experience (not just theory)
  • Ability to explain complex ideas simply
  • Patience and emotional intelligence
  • Flexibility to adapt to different learning styles

Only 1 in 10 applicants makes it through our selection process. We test technical skills, but we also watch how candidates interact with kids. Because knowing how to code isn't the same as knowing how to teach.

Summer intensives: deep learning, personal attention

Summer camps are a great way for kids to dive deep into coding without the distraction of school. Coddy intensives combine immersive learning with our personalized approach.

How it works:

  • Before the intensive, we consult with you and your child to pick the right program
  • Small groups (6-8 kids) mean personal attention even in an intensive format
  • Teachers adjust pace and difficulty as they see how each student progresses
  • Every intensive ends with a completed project—something your child built themselves

Popular programs:

Each program adapts to your child's level — beginners and more experienced kids can thrive in the same group.

Coddy intensive courses are a great way to quickly master programming and create your own personal first project.

Age-appropriate programs that grow with your child

We offer 90+ courses. Here's how we think about different age groups:

Ages 4-6: First Steps

  • Learning through play and games
  • Building logic and attention skills
  • Visual, block-based programming
  • Very gentle pace — no pressure

Ages 7-9: Building Foundations

  • Creating simple games in Scratch
  • Minecraft programming
  • Still visual and fun, but more structured
  • Projects based on what your child loves

Ages 10-13: Real Programming Begins

  • Introduction to Python, JavaScript
  • Building apps and games from scratch
  • Gradual transition from blocks to text-based code
  • More independence, bigger projects

Ages 14-16: Preparing for the Future

  • Advanced programming languages
  • Career exploration in tech
  • Portfolio-ready projects
  • Preparation for university or competitions

The key: we don't force a 10-year-old to learn like a 14-year-old, or vice versa. We meet kids where they are.

We take many factors into account when individualizing our approach to our students.

Group vs. individual lessons: finding the right fit

Individual Lessons

Best for:

  • Kids who need a fully customized pace
  • Scheduling flexibility
  • Deep focus on specific topics
  • Children who learn better one-on-one

Group Lessons (Max 6-8 Students)

Best for:

  • Learning collaboration and communication
  • Motivation through friendly competition
  • Making friends with similar interests
  • More affordable option

The good news: personalization works in both formats. In groups, we differentiate tasks. Kids work on projects at their own level. Teachers circulate and help individually. You get the social benefits without losing the personal attention.

Hybrid Options

Some families combine both: group classes for regular learning, plus occasional individual sessions to work on specific challenges or accelerate in areas of high interest.

A personalized approach allows you to better assimilate the material, and, consequently, to reach great heights.

Real results: what parents and kids say

Parent of a 12-year-old:

"My son is hard to impress — he's in an advanced computer science program at school. But he loved this course. He logged in on his own without reminders and participated actively. The teacher knew exactly how to engage him."

Parent of a 10-year-old:

"Artyom really enjoyed the lessons. Everything made sense, the teacher explained things well and gave encouragement. Perfect for summer when he's not busy with school. Thank you, Coddy!"

Parent of a 9-year-old:

"My son came in after a bad experience at another school. He'd lost confidence. Coddy's teacher found out he loved video games and built the whole program around creating his own game. Three months later, he finished his first project. Two years later, he's competing in coding competitions."

These aren't exceptions. When you teach to the individual — not the average — results follow.

Why Personalization Matters for Your Child's Future

Personalized learning isn't just more effective. It teaches kids something bigger: how to learn.

When education adapts to you — instead of forcing you to adapt to it — you develop:

  • Self-awareness: understanding how you learn best
  • Motivation: pursuing what genuinely interests you
  • Confidence: succeeding at your own pace
  • Independence: taking ownership of your education

These skills matter far beyond coding. They're the foundation for success in any field.

Individualization is the main trend of modern education.

Ready to See the Difference?

Coddy's personalized approach has helped 200,000+ kids discover their potential in tech. Small groups. Expert teachers. Programs that adapt to your child.

Summer intensives are open for enrollment. Find the right program for your child and give them a summer they'll actually remember—and skills they'll use for life.
